Mother's Day: A Berry Sweet Dessert Bar

Just a few days ago...

I introduced you to
 "Strawberry Doughnut Shortcake"...
and her BFF
"Peaches and Cream Doughnut Shortcake"...

During that post

I was thinking aloud on the blog...

(As I tend to do)

I mentioned making the amazing

doughnut shortcakes into a dessert bar...

How delicious...

How absolutely magnificent...

A dessert bar...

and not just a plain-Jane kind of dessert bar...

Oh, no.  Not for us...

This would be a dessert bar

full of doughnut shortcake goodness

 offering a variety of

gorgeous fruit toppings!!

(because we all know, not everyone loves strawberry shortcake)

What could be better than an array of fruit,

piled onto fresh glazed doughnuts...

and of course, slathered with homemade vanilla whipped cream...

Not much could be better!!

Like magic...

those words... freshly typed onto the page...

turned into a whole BIG thing.

The dessert bar came to life and got itself a spot on

the local morning news...

It did...

Just me and the super-amazing

Mother's Day Doughnut Shortcake Dessert Bar

In High Definition no-less...

So Mother's Day is quickly approaching...

(If you didn't realize this...don't worry...
it was a surprise to me as well)

Usually... Mother's Day falls more toward

the middle of May...

However, this Sunday is May 1st...
 (gasp...really, May already...?)

That means, next Sunday, the 8th of May, is THE day.

Moms, each one of us...
 unique.
Moms like to
be celebrated in their own special way too...
For sure... most moms...(me included)
enjoy being thanked and appreciated...
(most any day of the year...will do)
but especially, on Mother's Day.

Knowing my kiddos are grateful
for all the mothering
and all the attempts at mothering
that go on, day-in and day-out....
that means more than any gift.

Their gratitude...is gift enough...

Gratitude.

...And throwing in the occasional doughnut shortcake
dessert bar wouldn't hurt.

So, if you need a little Mother's Day inspiration...

and maybe you are hosting a luncheon or picnic for mom...

THIS could be the grand finale to a beautiful

gratitude-filled day of Mom-a-palooza...

This easy,
 make-ahead,
scrumptious,
dessert bar will do the trick...

And in case you want to show mom,
she is the BERRY BEST...
in written form...

I threw in a little more inspiration with these
super cute
"I Love you Berry Much"
homemade Mother's Day cards...

These cards were easy to make...
literally taking 25 minutes, start to finish.
I love the blank note cards from the craft store.
Personally... I prefer a hand drawn anything over an expensive
store-bought card any day...

Using a very little bit of craft paint,
the kids can use their finger tips to make berries on
the blank cards..
Let it dry (ours took 15 minutes)
When dry, draw seeds on the berries using a black sharpie marker.

We used berry cute phrases like:

"Wishing you a BERRY Happy Mother's Day!"
"To the Berry Best Grandma"
"We Love you Berry Much"
"To the Berry Best Mom!!"

So...
We have a card...CHECK.
"Berry" themed to match a totally-awesome dessert bar...CHECK.
Awesome-delicious doughnut-shortcake dessert bar...CHECK.

A super-cute hand-made pin for mom.... Yes, I have that too!!

Using cupcake liners... like these.

Stack them one on top of the next.
Glue them together.

Add ribbon to the back.

Add a pin, glue it onto the back.
(I picked up these pin backs in the jewelry making department of the craft store.)
Embellish with a cute phrase or a sticker...

A darling way to tell mom she is the BERRY BEST...
every mom is the "best"...naturally...
and every kiddo knows their mom is the very best mom in the whole world!!

Don't forget grandma...

I am wishing all of you wonderfully charming,
and dedicated mothers
a very happy
and very special day with your
own mom and your families.

Truly.

May your dessert bars be yummy...and delicious...
May your "berry" cards be sweet...
and may your family do ALL the dishes too...

because...

It IS Mother's Day after all...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!
